Small business luncheon seminar: Creating a retail business in HK

Small business luncheon seminar: Creating a retail business in HKTuesday, 24 July 2012
With the week-end influx of Mainland shoppers, a large expat market looking for labels from ‘back home’, the low tax environment, and the ease with which a small business can be started here – HK is an attractive place in which to open a shop or retail business.
The flip side to the opportunity can be the high cost of floorspace, the challenge of renovating the space, the competition from similar businesses across the city, pricing and sourcing of the products, and finding the right staff to sell your goods. In this seminar we look at the pros and cons of fulfilling that retail dream and opening a shopfront in Hong Kong.
Speakers:
Alison Wong, Manager, PwC Hong Kong
A consultant to the Retail & Consumer sector, Alison has experience with operational improvement, financial modelling, supply chain transformation, and business strategy development. She also has a strong financial background and is an Australian CPA.
Clarissa Becker, Director, Baby Central
A new mum frustrated by the lack of home delivery for urgent baby supplies, Clarissa created Baby Central in 2010: an online store of 5,000 baby and maternity items with free same day delivery. This has recently evolved into their first retail space – with a showroom, café and playzone.
Eddie McDougall, The Flying Winemaker
Raised in Australia, Eddie was bottling his own wine from the age of 19 and has worked with winemakers from O’Leary Walker, Clyde Park, and Vietti, Barolo in Italy. In 2011 that passion resulted in him opening The Flying Winemaker showroom, cellar & tasting rooms at the top of LKF.
